The Veterinary Council of New Zealand (VCNZ) is the regulators for veterinarians. They protect the public interest by registering vets, setting standards, ensuring compliance with those standards and acting where there are concerns.

VCNZ is known for making a big difference and bringing out positive change in the system –and that’s where you will fit in. They are now seeking an experienced Veterinarian to join their small and friendly team.

Reporting to the Registrar, you will be working at the Council office in the Wellington CBD and will advise and support VCNZ and the Registrar in setting and promoting professional standards as well as acting as a link between VCNZ and the profession. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Administering and assisting the Professional Standards Committee (PSC)
  • Being the subject matter expert on VCNZ’s professional standards and veterinary practice
  • Acting as a key point of contact for the profession and members of the public on professional standards issues
  • Leading on VCNZ’s liaison and communication with the profession
  • Collaborating, building and maintaining a close working relationship with key stakeholders including VCNZ staff, veterinarians, public members, NZ Veterinary Association (NZVA), Massey University and the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI)
  • Advising and working with VCNZ, committee and advisory group members
To be considered for this role, you will be a qualified Veterinarian with experience across a broad range of areas, including clinical practice, and will be eligible for an annual practicing certificate. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to an agile environment and work across the wider business are a must.

  • Ability to respond effectively and empathically to concerns raised by veterinarians and members of the public
  • Excellent time management, organisational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of a small team
  • Highly motivated and organised
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Good computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong relationship building capabilities
